The Parish Council carries out regular risk assessments regarding the stability of memorial stones . Following the latest assessment which comprised of the top third of the cemetery, approximately 20 headstones were found to be unstable. Most date from the 1980s so owners are not easy to trace. A black marker advising that the grave is unstable has been left at each location and the stone carefully laid down to protect members of the public from injury.
Grave owners/family members should contact a reputable stonemason to arrange for reinstatement. This does not have to be the same one who did the original memorial. For reference, some stones have the name of the memorial mason on the back.
